A Better Environment for Future Generations

Raising awareness about climate change and sustainability in school has never been more important than it is right now. We are working #together with ‘St Bart’s MAT Sustainability Network’ to develop a Sustainability Action Plan. Our aim is to address school’s impact on the environment through climate education about:

  • carbon emissions and energy efficiency
  • biodiversity
  • sustainability

So far, we have:

  • joined the National Education Nature Park
  • taken part in the Hidden Nature Challenge
  • signed up for ECO Schools
  • registered with Let’s Go Zero

We have appointed Advocates of Earth and they’ve started to get involved by placing green dots around school to remind us to switch lights off in areas not in use. They have also joined the St Bart’s Members of Pupil Parliament (MP’s), to focus on key themes, based on the UN sustainable development goals. Their collective ideas will feed into the Trust’s sustainability plan.

In addition to the above, Miss Bache achieved a Forest Schools qualification, and number of staff took part in biodiversity training, to help children learn outdoors.

This term, we will continue working together with ‘St Bart’s MAT Sustainability Network’ to address school’s impact on the environment through climate education about:

  • carbon emissions and energy efficiency
  • biodiversity
  • sustainability

St Bart’s MAT Sustainability Lead, Julie Rowlandson, delivered a whole school worship about sustainability..

FOPS have funded some new books for an area of the library which has been dedicated to sustainability and climate change.

In February, we took part in the RSPB Big School’s Bird Watch and started an after-school Gardening Club. Our keen gardeners have been working hard to improve the biodiversity across the site.

During  March, we took part in the The Big Plastic Count. Thousands of schools, households, community groups and businesses, supported Greenpeace UK by counting their plastic waste.

The investigation will reveal how much plastic we are throwing away in the UK, and find out what really happens to it afterwards. The results will be used to convince UK ministers to lead the way at the global talks that could finally phase out plastic pollution for good.

Young people have the power to make a real difference and help shape the future of the planet. That’s why we want to get as many families to take part as possible.
