School Meals

We are a ‘healthy eating school’

Priory has an on-site kitchen which provides a range of excellent meals, including vegetarian options, and can cater for children with specific dietary requirements. If your child requires a special diet please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Our menus for April 2024 onwards are:

City Catering Display Menu Week 1

City Catering Display Menu Week 2

City Catering Display Menu Week 3

The cost of school meals will be £2.50 for Nursery children, and £3.20 for children in Years 3 to 6 (Key Stage 2).

Payment must be made by Monday morning of each week, via our secure online payment system, Arbor. Children are also able to bring a packed lunch. We request that pupils who bring sandwiches do not include carbonated drinks or sweets/chocolate as part of their meal and that parents support our ‘healthy eating’ agenda.  Please send your child’s packed lunch in a plastic container/box labelled with the child’s name and class.  Please do not include any drinks in glass bottles or cans. Requests for changes between school meals and sandwiches can be made at the beginning of each week, via the school office.

Universal Free School Meals are available to all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, regardless of family income.

Free school meals are also available for all children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits. Please visit https://www.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/sims to apply.

You must be claiming one of these benefits:

  • Universal Credit (you’re eligible after you’ve got your first payment)
  • Child Tax Credit
  • The ‘guaranteed element’ of Pension Credit
  • Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
  • Income-related employment and support allowance
  • Income Support
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Working Tax Credit (only in Scotland and Northern Ireland)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (only in England and Wales) – this is paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

If you’re specifically on Universal Credit or Tax Credits, as opposed to the others listed above, or you have no recourse to public funds, there’s a limit on how much income you can earn to qualify for free school meals. If you’re on the other benefits, there’s no maximum income.

In England and Wales, if you’re:

  • On Universal Credit, you can qualify for free school meals if your income is no more than £7,400/year (after tax and not including your benefits) in total for your household.
  • On Child Tax Credit, you will still receive free school meals on earnings up to £16,190/year, provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit.
  • Classed as having no recourse to public funds, your household income will need to be less than the following thresholds:

    – £22,700 – if you have one child, and live outside London
    – £26,300 – if you have more than one child, and live outside London
    – £31,200 – if you live in London, and have one child
    – £34,800 – if you live in London, and have more than one child

You’ll need to provide proof of both your income & your immigration status when you apply.

Snacks

Children are not allowed to bring sweet biscuits, chocolate bars, crisps etc. for a break-time snack, but may bring healthy snacks (e.g. fruit). Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children receive a free piece of fruit each day. Children under 5 also receive free milk. Key Stage 2 children can buy healthy snacks from the school kitchen at morning break.
