The Priory Primary School Governing Body

The school’s Governing Body is collectively responsible for the overall direction of the school and its strategic management.  It is responsible for setting the school’s educational and financial priorities and for promoting high standards.  The Governing Body aims to ensure that children are attending a successful school which provides them with a good education and supports their well-being.
Its responsibilities include:

  • Promoting high standards of achievement and ensuring accountability;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the school’s progress;
  • Setting the aims, values and ethos of the school;
  • Adopting and reviewing policies for achieving these aims and objectives;
  • Acting as a “critical friend’ to the Headteacher;
  • Planning the school’s long-term future;
  • Setting and monitoring the budget to ensure best value for money;
  • Appointing staff including the Headteacher.


The Governing Body seeks to represent its key stakeholders and its membership is drawn from parents, staff, representatives of the diocese, a representative of the Local Authority and co-opted members who are deemed to have the necessary skills and experience as identified by the Governors.
